Franklin Square Eagle Scouts honored

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano honored Franklin Square residents Corry Brinken and Jake Ciampa in celebration of their earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America with only 7 percent of scouts ever reaching that rank.

Each Boy Scout must work through many levels of scouting and earn at least 21 merit badges prior to beginning his Eagle project. The projects that the scouts accomplish are as diverse as the boys themselves. Their service project must be one that the Scout himself plans, organizes, leads and manages. Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than two million young men including the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong, film director Steven Spielberg, and J.W. Marriott Jr., who serves as chairman of the Marriott Corporation. The skills scouts learn while working on their Eagle Project prepare them for many of the challenges they face in their lives.
