Nassau Police Fifth Precinct officers arrested a Franklin Square man for assault in Franklin Square on Tuesday at 2:41 a..m.

According to detectives, after hearing a police broadcast that a 2005 Honda was being operated erratically a Highway Patrol Officer responded to the vicinity of Wool Avenue as a possible destination. The officer did observe the vehicle traveling south on Franklin making a left onto
Wool Avenue without signaling. A vehicular traffic stop was attempted in
front of 134 Wool at which time the driver, Keith Spollen, 41, of Franklin Square, began backing up on to his driveway and the grass. An investigation determined that Keith Spollen was driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and avoided being placed into police custody by yelling and flailing his arms. Several more Fifth Precinct officers responded and placed him into police custody after a struggle ensued. One police officer suffered injury to his left hand involving cuts and contusions. He was treated and released at a nearby local hospital. The defendant was being transported to a local hospital in a Nassau County Police ambulance to be evaluated at which time he kicked a Nassau Police medic in his left shoulder and ribs causing contusions.

Keith Spollen was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Driving Under the Influence 1192.3, and multiple Vehicular Violations. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
