Heart healthy at Dutch Broadway

The final number have been counted and Dutch Broadway School students raised more than $2000 for the American Heart Association during the school’s fifth annual Healthy Heart Week, which was held in February.

The event ran in conjunction with the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart program, under the guidance of physical education teachers Deb Bennett and Glenn Saenz. Throughout the week, students reviewed ways to keep their hearts strong and healthy. They also participated in heart healthy activities, including basketball, hula-hoop and jump rope.

Each child was asked to raise money to donate to the American Heart Association and were reminded during physical education classes why they were participating and who they were helping by donating.

This year’s theme was “Quacktastic.” All of the students who donated money placed their name on a duck sticker that was hung on the “Heart Hero Duck Pond” located in the gymnasium.
