After shooting Lopez, the suspect got back in the Honda and continued southbound on the Cross Island for a short distance before abandoning the vehicle in the vicinity of Belmont Park. The suspect then hijacked another car and shot the driver in the head, killing him. The victim has been identified as Raymond Facey, 52, of Jamaica, Queens.
The hijacked car was located not far from where it was stolen. After an extensive search by detectives from the Nassau County Police and New York Police Department, the suspect, Fuller, was still on the run as of Tuesday afternoon officials said. Hundreds of detectives from both departments and members of the U.S. marshals were on the case, combing the area surrounding the Nassau-Queens border Syrnecki said.
Fuller is alive and being treated for his injuries, police did not have details on his condition. Fuller was arrested in 2004 for attempted murder and served five years in prison. His most recent arrest was in 2010 for selling cocaine in Nassau County.
"One can only wonder how an animal like this was roaming the streets," Mangano said.
Lopez is survived by his father, Alfonso, mother, Mirella and sister, Charo. He was a volunteer firefighter in Dix Hills as well as an Emergency Medical Technician.
