Summer fires in Elmont

On Friday, Aug. 14, the Elmont Volunteer Fire Department was called to a house fire at 303 Oakley Ave. EFD’s Engine 3 and Ladder 2 arrived first and Chief Rob Schriefer was in charge. The Fire Department believes the third-floor fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring. No injuries were reported.

On Aug. 17, a Monday evening, the Elmont Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at 1634 Miriam Court. Begun as a grease fire on the stove in the first floor kitchen, the fire spread through the walls and ceiling to the second floor. One minor injury was reported and the family was displaced. EFD Chief Rob Schriefer was in charge and Engine 3 and Ladder 2 arrived first. The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes.
