Two Elmont residents arrested for string of burglaries

Nassau County Police have arrested two Elmont residents in connection with a string of burglaries that occurred throughout Floral Park and Elmont from March 31 to May 4.

According to detectives, an investigation led to the arrest of Richard Ryan, 40, and Sheila Rivera, 34. The two were living at the same location on Evans Avenue in Elmont.

Police apprehended Ryan after he exited Goldis Pawn Shop in Hempstead at 2:40 p.m. on May 4. Detective’s recovered proceeds at Ryan’s home, which included computer laptops, assorted jewelry and credit cards. According to police, Ryan burglarized four homes since March. The first being on Geranium Avenue in Floral Park on March 31. After that he hit a house on Hunnewell Avenue in Elmont on April 25. On May 2 he burglarized a home on Oakley Avenue in Elmont and on May 4 he hit a home on Evans Avenue in Elmont.

Throughout the investigation into Ryan, police were able to apprehend Rivera on similar charges. She surrendered to police on May 4 at 9:20 p.m. According to detectives, Rivera used a stolen credit card, which was taken during one of the four burglaries by Ryan, in an attempt to purchase merchandise at a Walmart in Valley Stream.

Ryan is being charged with six counts of burglary in the 2nd degree. Rivera is charged with criminal possession of stolen property.

They will be arraigned on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
