Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library patron Marilyn Langer was the raffle winner after the “Blind Date with a Book” reading event.

In February through early March, the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library hosted a successful “Blind Date with a Book” event. Calling it “successful,” officials said that 49 people went on “dates” with one of the 54 books of their choice. The dates ranged from classic novels such as “Magic Barrel” by Bernard Malamud to graphic novels such as Thi Bui’s “The Best We Could Do.”

After the date, readers reported their experience. Many said that the book was not one they would have chosen on their own but they were happily surprised with the outcome.

Those who reviewed the novel entered a raffle. “Cupid,” librarian Marie Drucker picked the winner. Marilyn Langer won a ceramic travel mug inscribed with the word “Read.”

The library at 1125 Broadway in Hewlett is considering holding a similar program called “Summer Love” later this year. For more information, call (516) 374-1967.
