Knights of Columbus Twelve Apostles Council hosts annual fundraising dance

The Twelve Apostles Council No. 5001 of the Knights of Columbus held its annual St. Patrick/St. Joseph Dance on March 18. About 300 people filled up the auditorium at St. Catherine of Sienna in Franklin Square to enjoy great food, live entertainment and dancing throughout the night.  In addition to the party atmosphere, the group also raffled a number of gifts donated by various businesses located throughout the Franklin Square area.  

Music was provided by (Bella Music) DJ Ciro DiLorenzo, who provided a nice blend of Irish and Italian tunes along with an assortment of modern tunes to accommodate all musical tastes. We were also graced with a group of Irish step dancers from the Dorothy Petri School of Dance in Garden City Park. They put on a performance that had wowed everyone. Even when they were done with their dances, they went into the audience to teach some basic steps. The kids of all ages enjoyed participating in this especially, according to organization officials.

Food was also provided to whet the appetites of those craving Italian and Irish specialties like broccoli with pasta and sausage, corn beef and cabbage, steak pizzaiola, and other assortments of tasty specially made dishes. Trays of Zeppole San Giuseppe and homemade Irish Soda bread topped off the evening's desserts.

"We were also able to share the food with thirty families from a chaplaincy group at Belmont racetrack, which was well appreciated," said Charles Guder, the spokesman of the Knights of Columbus council.  

The funds that are raised by this annual event go towards helping defray costs of the charitable works provided through the Council of the Knights of Columbus in the community. Examples of these include: blood drives, support to Ronald McDonald house, holiday food deliveries, youth activities, Special Olympics, and support to other parish, community and civic-related activities.   If you are interested in becoming a member of the Knights of Columbus, contact the organization at:

The organization has regularly scheduled meetings in the Sienna Center (lower level) of St. Catherine of Sienna on every third Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
