Christmas Jazz at Madison Theatre

See Kirk Whalum perform at Molloy College’s Madison Theatre with special guests for the sixth annual “A Gospel According to Jazz Christmas” on Saturday, Dec. 23. Whalum is an American smooth jazz saxophonist and songwriter who has toured with Whitney Houston and has released a series of solo albums and film soundtracks. Have brunch with Santa

On Saturday, Dec. 23, join neighbors at Salsa Mexicana — at 13 N. Village Ave. — for Brunch with Santa. Meet author of “The Great Spruce”

On Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m., come to the Rockville Centre Library to meet John Duvall, the local author behind the delightful holiday picture book “The Great Spruce.” People of all ages are welcome; no registration required. Hear the story of a boy’s love for his family’s huge spruce tree, which is to be cut down for the city’s holiday display, and how his quick thinking saves both the tree and the holidays.

Cherished traditions from days gone by

Step back in time for some old-fashion holiday spectacle. Old Bethpage Village Restoration shares some festive merriment, by candlelight, during its annual Candlelight Evenings event, Tuesday through Saturday, Dec. 28-30, 5-9:30 p.m. The rustic landscape of the restored village is transformed in the spirit of the season. Tour the grandly decorated candlelit homes and hear stories of Christmases past, retold each night, along with musical entertainment, a bonfire and refreshments.
