Woodhaven man arrested in string of robberies

A Woodhaven man was arrested on Sept. 5 at 2:30 a.m. in connection with a string of robberies throughout Nassau County.

According to Nassau County police, detectives identified 51-year-old James Markellos as the person responsible for breaking into trailers and stealing various pieces of landscaping equipment in Bethpage on Aug. 1 and 3, Franklin Square on Aug. 15, Roosevelt on Aug. 17 and 22, Freeport on Aug. 19 and 22, and North Massapequa on Aug. 28

Markellos was located near Armstrong Place and Washington Avenue in Mineola, police said, and was placed under arrest without incident.

He is charged with six counts of third-degree grand larceny and three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny. He was scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead on Sept. 5.
