Women’s groups gather to celebrate Passover

Less than a month before the holiday began, the sisterhoods of several South Shore synagogues, along with two sections of the National Council of Jewish Women came together for their annual joint Seder held this year at the Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre in East Rockaway on March 24.

Seeing a need borne out of Hurricane Sandy, when Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department firefighters had to rescue residents from the second and third floor of their homes due to flooding, students at Mesivta Ateres Yaakov, a yeshiva high school for boys in Lawrence, raised $1,500 in less than a week a few months ago and purchased a rescue boat they presented to the LCFD.

Honoring Gio, celebrating Love Remembers Day

In remembrance of Lynbrook resident Giovanni Cipriano, a former Lawrence Public Schools student who was attending Holy Trinity High School and died on Oct. 18 due to an allergic reaction after eating a peanut product, his mother, Georgina Cornago Cipriano, organized a day of reflection and awareness on Sunday, March 30.
