Atlantic Beach resident earns Eagle Scout award

The highest honor in Boy Scouting — Eagle Scout — was achieved by Atlantic Beach resident Michael Simao, a senor at Lawrence High School, for his project of cleaning up and then repainting the parking space lines and traffic direction arrows in the lot of the Lawrence Primary School at the Number Two School in the Lawrence district.

Eagle Scout is a prestigious award that has been earned by presidents John F. Kennedy and Gerald Ford; Oscar-winning director and producer Steven Spielberg; Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon; and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Simao, a member of Troop 121 in East Rockaway, earned the required 21 badges and completed his project. He was honored at East Rockaway Village Hall on Jan. 26
