Atlantic Beach woman charged with DWI

Police say she left the scene and had a 7-year-old in the vehicle

Giovanna Rupay, 43, of Flamingo Street in Atlantic Beach was charged with driving while intoxicated sub. 2 & 3, aggravated driving intoxicated with a child (Leandra’s Law) and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

On Sunday at 12:13 a.m., Rupay was driving a red 2013 Honda Pilot and got into an accident with a black Dodge sedan, while traveling south on the Nassau Expressway at Seagirt Boulevard, just north of the Atlantic Beach Bridge, according to police, who said that Rupay left the accident scene and walked home.

The driver of the Dodge, a man, and his passenger, a woman, remained at the scene and notified police. Fourth Precinct officers went to Rupay’s home and took her back to where the accident occurred.

Police determined that Rupay was intoxicated and had a 7-year-old girl with her at the time of the accident. Rupay was then arrested about an hour after the incident happened.
