Doshi Diagnostic Imaging Services, P.C. and Diagnostic Imaging Group, LLC will repay more than $2.9 million to the state Medicaid program for false billings based on a settlement with New York’s Attorney General office.

The radiology medical practice is based in Hicksville and two of its 21 locations are in Hewlett — Doshi at 1137 Broadway and Hewlett Nuclear at 1184 Broadway.

Overall the settlement will recover $15.5 million with more than $12.394 million being returned to the federal Medicare program and New Jersey’s program receiving $190,384.

Between 1999 and 2010, the companies submitted more than 40,000 bogus billings for imaging services not specifically ordered by treating physicians and not medically necessary, according to Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. Along with this fraud, the companies were suspected of paying kickbacks.

The settlement is based on three whistleblower lawsuits brought by individuals in 2009 and 2010 in New York and New Jersey.
