A Hewlett-Woodmere Little League baseball team defeated South Nassau Rock 8-4 in the inaugural Grant Park Trophy Series sponsored by South Nassau Rock that took place from June 19-25 in the Nassau County park in Hewlett.
Hewlett-Woodmere, South Nassau Rock and Lynbrook Little League played a round robin set of games to determine the newly created tournament champion. Officials from the three organizations said they are looking forward to making this an annual event.
Former Islander defenseman Eric Cairns, who is the hockey team’s director of Player Development, along with Brian Nugent, the county’s deputy commissioner of Parks & Recreation, both threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the championship game.
