Berke Eye Care celebrates one year at new Westbury location

Offering top-of-the-line services with state-of-the-art technology, Berke Eye Care recently celebrated its one year anniversary in its new location in Westbury. Berke formerly practiced in Lynbrook.

Designed from the ground up by Dr. Stanley Berke, a Rockville Centre resident, the office has dozens of features that help facilitate better care.

The office’s five exam rooms are specifically designed to not have windows, which gives doctors better control of light while examining patients’ eyes. There are digital eye charts in each room, which are higher definition than standard electric eye charts.

“This isn’t your grandparents’ eye doctor’s office,” Berke said.

The office itself features a great deal of artwork that Berke has collected. Some of it is from patients of his — including original photos of the Kennedy family and the Beatles — as well as a great deal of artwork from his father-in-law.

Berke teaches at Nassau University Medical Center and in the Northshore LIJ system. He opened the office in Westbury, which is located at 1600 Stewart Ave., on March 15, 2013.

“It’s supposed to be a pleasant place to go,” he said.

In the year since it opened, Berke has introduced a new laser to his office. One of the only of its kind, it can completely obliterate floaters, something that couldn’t be done with a laser before. Floaters are small pieces of tissue in the eye that cast shadows on the retina, often appearing as spots, strings or cobwebs in vision.

Floaters used to have to be removed with surgery. But with the new laser in Berke’s office, it can be done in one sitting in an outpatient procedure. The floater is completely vaporized, leaving no trace in the eye.
