Bogus cop robs motorist on Broadway in Woodmere

A man allegedly impersonating a police officer took another man’s wallet and an unspecified amount of money during a phony traffic stop on Broadway in Woodmere at 3:45 p.m. on Monday, according to police.

The motorist, 25, was headed north on Broadway when he saw a black Jeep behind him with red lights on. The driver pulled over and was approached by the man who said he was a police officer, police said. The man allegedly took the other man out of his car and had him take out what was in his pockets and place them on the trunk of the vehicle. After taking the wallet, the man described as Hispanic, in his 30s and 6-feet tall made a U-turn and headed south on Broadway.
