Car hit pedestrian crossing Lawrence intersection

No criminality suspected in the accident

In Lawrence on Tuesday at 9:15 p.m., a car struck a pedestrian. Homicide Squad detectives are investigating this auto accident.

According to the detectives, a male victim, 19, was crossing at the intersection of Rockaway Turnpike and Route 878 when a male driver, 55, in a 2011 Kia sedan, hit him with his car.

Nassau County Police Ambulance transported the pedestrian, who suffered head trauma and leg fractures, to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition. The driver and his passenger were uninjured.

Detectives report no apparent criminality. A breathalyzer test performed on the driver yielded negative results.  A brake and safety inspection of the vehicle revealed adequate results.
