The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. members Evelyn Jackson and Annie Reyes spearheaded a night of commemorating Black History at the Five Towns Community Center in Lawrence on Feb. 21.

Cultural icons such as Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and President Barack Obama were celebrated as the two-hour event, held in the building’s gymnasium, built on the theme of rejoicing, rebuilding and reclaiming their community.

There were also performances by the Five Towns Community Center Youth Organizers, Lawrence High School African American Club, the Inwood-based Sankofa drummers and a guest speaker.
