A fire broke out at 345 Ocean Ave. in Lawrence on Tuesday. A mailman passing by reported the fire.

A mail deliverer reported the fire that severely damaged a house at 345 Ocean Ave, in Lawrence at 12:45 p.m. on April 22, said John McHugh, chief of the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department.
"The owner was not home at the time of the fire," McHugh said. "There were no injuries and we remained at the scene for four hours."
The Nassau County Fire Marshall was at the scene and deemed the fire as not suspicious. Mutual aid was provided by Inwood, Woodmere, Meadowmere Park, Hewlett, Valley Stream, Long Beach, Lynbrook, East Rockaway and Elmont fire departments.
