Hewlett High School graduate wins Porter scholarship

Elissa Candiotti, a class of 2014 graduate of Hewlett High School and former Nassau Herald intern, was one of four high school students nationwide to be awarded the Robert G. Porter Scholarship by the American Federation of Teachers.
Candiotti received her $8,000 for coordinating Hewlett High’s Cabaret Night that raised money for the Sloan Kettering Pediatric Cancer Center. She will attend Syracuse University in the fall.

Student achievements

  Inwood resident Joseph Kenny, a doctor of physical therapy student at the University of Sciences in Philadelphia, was named to the spring semester dean’s List. Students who receive this recognition have completed and passed all assigned courses with no grade below a C, and attained a grade point average of at least 3.4.
  Kathryn Risolo, of Hewlett, made Siena College’s spring dean’s list. Risolo is an English major. To be eligible students have maintained a GPA between 3.5 and 3.89 for the semester.
  Hewlett resident Adam Rubenstein was named to the Syracuse University dean’s list for the spring semester.
  SUNY Brockport student Justice Uwazurike, of Inwood, earned dean’s list honor. A GPA between 3.4 and 3.69 is required.
  Fairleigh Dickinson University had its graduation ceremony on May 20. The graduating class included FDU’s Metropolitan Campus students Avraham Goldstein and Michael Shonfeld, of Woodmere, and Lawrence resident Benjamin Braun, who each earned degrees in Individualized Studies. Joseph Elefant of Lawrence earned a master’s in accounting.
  Andrew Lurie, of Hewlett, was one of 433 members of the New York Law School’s class of 2014 to be a awarded a Juris Doctor degree during its 122nd graduation at Carnegie Hall in Manhattan on May 21.
  Atlantic Beach resident Samantha Kaplowitz and Isabella Giordano, of Hewlett, made the dean’s list for the spring semester at Loyola University Maryland. A GPA of at least 3.5 and a minimum of 15 credits are required.
  Russell Schneider, of Hewlett, graduated with an associate’s degree in teacher education from SUNY College of Technology at Delhi.
  Eric Gottlieb, a Lawrence resident and student of the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business at Adelphi University, was named to the spring semester dean’s list. Students must attain a 3.5 or better GPA.
