Coastal flood advisory issued for Tuesday night

There is a winter weather advisory in effect until noon on Wednesday and a coastal flood advisory was issued for the area from 8 to 11 p.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service forecast for Tuesday night calls for snow at times, accumulating an inch or two.

The storm system that brought up to four inches of snow to the Five Towns on Monday has caused flooding in Inwood and Cedarhurst.

Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky (D-Long Beach) who is running for the State Senate against Republican Christopher McGrath issued a statement on the flooding, an issue Kaminsky addressed during a legislative hearing last month.

“The flooding that inundated our communities yet again this week underscores the dire need to urgently improve and strengthen our infrastructure,” Kaminsky said. “It is a disgrace that, in many respects, we are no better off today than we were the day after superstorm Sandy."

“I call on the federal and state governments to immediately address this crisis by releasing funds to storm-harden our shores," he added. "We cannot wait any longer. Bureaucratic delays are no excuse for imperiling the safety of Long Islanders. This year’s state budget must address our infrastructure issues, and federal monies already allocated and dispersed by our state must be distributed immediately.”
