‘He was a loyal and kind man’

Lawrence Merzon of North Woodmere will be remembered as classy

Longtime North Woodmere resident Lawrence Merzon died on Dec. 27. He was 85.

Merzon was born in Manhattan and attended William Howard Taft High School in the Bronx before receiving his bachelor’s in business from New York University. He worked for his father’s business, Merzon Sportswear, and later at Isaac Hazan & Co. sportswear.

He was a 57-year resident of North Woodmere and member of Temple Hillel, also in North Woodmere. Merzon married his wife Suzanne on Jan. 27, 1951.

“He was a loyal and kind man,” said Merzon’s daughter, Randi. “He was also classy, elegant and refined.”

Services were held on Dec. 30 at Boulevard-Riverside Chapel in Hewlett. He was interred at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Ridgewood.

Merzon is survived by his daughters Randi of San Francisco and Jill of Holland, wife Suzanne, sons-in-law Vincent and Timothy and grandson Graham.
