Posted

Retrofest 33, a benefit concert organized by Woodmere resident Allan Spielman and sponsored by Long Island Builders, Inc., will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29 at the Backstage Nite Club in Woodmere from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

All proceeds will be donated to Respond & Rebuild in the Rockaways to aid the cleanup from Hurricane Sandy.

New York-based musician Godfrey Townsend will headline a slate of bands that will pay tribute to the music groups that performed at the Fillmore West in the 1960s and ’70s. Townsend has played with Jack Bruce of Cream, the late John Entwistle of the Who, Dave Mason and Alan Parsons.

Respond & Rebuild is a group of disaster response volunteers who came together to help after Sandy. They use their experience as relief workers and skills in the construction trades to coordinate immediate and effective response to disaster and aid in the long-term rebuilding process.

They have also partnered with Occupy Sandy to share skills and resources. Group members have been pumping out, cleaning out, gutting out, and removing/preventing mold in hurricane-affected communities. They also coordinate training sessions so a larger number of people can provide fast and effective relief, and teach others to assist in long-term recovery efforts.

The donation is $10 at the door. The Backstage Nite Club is located at 948 Broadway in Woodmere.
