Five departments extibguish Hewlett building fire

Five fire departments battled a fire at 1744 Rockaway Avenue in Hewlett on Oct. 15.The Hewlett Fire Department was notified at 4:57 p.m., officials said.
Fire had erupted from the attic area of the one-story property located behind a two-story mixed-occupancy structure.
The Hewlett firefighters, arriving first, aggressively fought the fire from inside the building. Four other fire departments responded: Inwood, Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Valley Stream and Woodmere helped to extinguish the blaze. Lynbrook and East Rockaway Fire Departments covered secondary alarms.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office.
