Hewlett church marks Palm Sunday

Bagpiper Jim Noone,of the Wantagh Bag Pipe Band, played the Highland Bagpipe during the Palm Sunday procession.

Trinity-St. John’s Church on Broadway in Hewlett marked Palm Sunday with its annual procession through the community.

Richard Walther, a verger of the 177-year-old Episcopal church, led the march. Bagpiper Jim Noone, a member of the Wantagh Bag Pipe Band played the Highland Bagpipe during the procession.

On Palm Sunday, Christians celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem the week before his death and resurrection. It also signifies the beginning of Holy Week includes Good Friday and culminates with Easter the following Sunday. This year Easter will be celebrated on March 31.
