The Nassau County Police Benevolent Association and volunteer firefighters from around the county played a hockey game at Nassau Coliseum last Saturday to raise money for the family of Joseph Sanford Jr.
Sanford, a 17-year Inwood firemen, died on Dec. 23, four days after responding to a Woodmere house fire. He suffered injuries after falling from the first floor into the basement.
Organized by 4th Precinct police officer Todd Gerbasio, the event included a PBA check presentation to Sanford, wife, Jacqueline and daughter, Janisha for $10,000. The game, a 6-1 win for the police, netted $10 per person and the New York Islanders hockey team planned to donate $10 for every ticket sold.
