More than $20,000 was raised at the annual Five Towns Community Chest 3-on-3 basketball tournament at Lawrence High School last Sunday. Proceeds from the event support the Adam Barsel Scholarship and Community Chest programs.

Approximately 450 people attended the competition, which included 90 players on 22 teams spread across four age groups.

“It’s an honor for Five Towns Community Chest to be connected with the Barsel family,” said Executive Director Bob Block.

The Barsel scholarship is named in memory of Adam, a Hewlett High School sophomore killed in a car accident in 2000. His parents, Rich and Rhonda Barsel established the scholarship that is given to graduating high school students.
“It’s a great tournament, a good tradition; something the neighborhood should be proud of,” said Rich Barsel. “I appreciate that they continue to support me and my family.”

Winners included Angel Garcia, Dwayne Gamble, Ray Serrano, Lee Rosen and James Glenn, in the over 50 division; Effy Lowy, Daniel Rosenthal, Asher Jungreis and Charles Abramson in the adult (35-50) division; Marcus Saint-Furcy, Justin Kelly, Jefferson Guillaume, Brook Jenkins and Jeremy Glenn in the open (128-34 division and Alan Monastysky, Naor Noureti and Roy Vazana in the high school division.
