Inducting eight into HWAA Hall of Fame

Eight graduates of Hewlett High School, including three siblings, will be inducted into the Hewlett-Woodmere Alumni Association (HWAA) Hall of Fame during a ceremony that includes a brunch on April 26 at the high school.

Joan E. Kahr Class of 1956

A prominent decorative arts historian with a focus on French ironwork, Kahr is a regular contributor of articles, consultant for major auctions houses, dealers and collectors, along with being an author of two books that are used by experts in the field and a college and museum lecturer. She founded the Woodmere-based Joan Kahr School of Dance and served on the boards of the Peninsula Counseling Center (now New Horizon Counseling) and the Art Deco Society of New York.

Jill Weinick Iscol Class of 1964 

    Iscol is president of the IF Hummingbird Foundation, a family-run organization that seeks to strengthen democracy and reduce social, educational and economic inequalities throughout the world. Her board service has included being on the state commission on National and Community Service; U.S.-Afghan Women’s Council;  Clinton Global Initiative, President’s Advisory Council and chair of the annual Family Reunion Conference (1997-2001) moderated by then Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, and co-planned the White House Conference on Partnerships and Philanthropy.
