Installing a new cupola

Hewlett-Woodmere replaces damaged tower top at WEC

Traffic was slowed and stopped on Broadway in Woodmere as a 150-foot high crane lifted the tower and its copper top into place on the peak of the Woodmere Education Center on Friday.
The cupola, which was destroyed in Hurricane Sandy, was replaced on top of a school building that was built in 1917. It has been home to Woodmere High School, Woodmere Elementary School and since 1995, Hewlett-Woodmere School District’s administration building.
Designed consistent with the original, the materials used, while similar to the destroyed cupola, are expected to withstand the outdoor elements better, district officials said.
