Jack Olchin, former Hewlett resident and chairman of the state and Nassau County Liberal Party, died on Jan. 30. He was 92.
Olchin was born in the Bronx and obtained his undergraduate studies and law degrees from New York University. He also captained NYU’s tennis team in 1942. He and his wife, Selma, lived in Hewlett from 1960 until they moved to Great Neck three years ago.

Olchin was the last Liberal Party member elected to public office, when he won a New York City council seat in 1973. He was re-elected in 1977. Until his death, he served on the County Assessment Review Commission and the Employment Relations Board in Hempstead. Olchin also ran unsuccessfully for several public offices including county executive, county clerk and Congress.
A private family service was held on Feb. 1, before Olchin was buried at Beth Moses Cemetery in West Babylon.
