Lawrence Middle School students Rachel Bohnik and Michelle Barash, along with teacher aide Joyce Kesten, thought of selling candy canes during lunch periods to raise money for cancer research.
Bohnik’s 18-year-old sister, Inbal, is undergoing cancer treatment at Sloan Kettering Hospital in Manhattan. She recently underwent surgery to have a portion of her lung removed.
Using candy canes donated by Kesten and the students, the fundraiser collected $498 that will be donated to Sloan Kettering.
Students Chloe Brumm, Ava Ali, Allyssa Magliaro, Farrah Lichenstein and Sara DiLuzio also helped.
