Police find alleged thief on Rockaway Turnpike

A Manhattan man was arrested for allegedly robbing the Bank of America branch at 400 Central Ave. in Lawrence on Oct. 16, police said.

   Alberto A. Lopez, 24, entered the bank at 9:45 a.m. and demamded money from an employee, according to police. He got an unspecified amount of money, then fled on foot and headed north on Washington Avenue.

   Fourth Precinct officers responded and 45 minutes later found Lopez on Rockaway Turnpike, where he was arrested. The money was recovered. Lopez is charged with robbery third-degree.
