Lawrence trustees tabled the vote on exceeding the state mandated tax levy cap of 2.1 percent at the March 12 village meeting and will continue the public hearing at the April 15 meeting. The cap is the percent a municipality is allowed to raise taxes.

Though no formal vote was taken, Mayor Martin Oliner voiced his opposition to the proposal. “I don’t think we have to increase the cap, we will be within two percent,” he said.

Trustees did unanimously (5-0) approve a resolution that all applications asking for property assessment corrections are denied and the tentative assessments are valid. Property owners can file a challenge to their assessment with the county. A public hearing to amend the village code regarding the Zoning Board of Appeals was also tabled.

The tentative 2015-2016 budget was presented and a public hearing will also be held at the April 15 meeting on the proposed fiscal plan, along with the annual Stormwater Management Report at 8 p.m. at Village Hall at 196 Central Ave.

Commission proposals reviewed

Four recommendations made by the Parks Commission are under review by the trustees. The creation of a winter storage rate of $400 for boats 36-feet and longer and $200 for shorter boats; having truck delivery of fuel to marina members; spending $5,000 to convert one regular slip into to accommodate a 93-foot long boat, two slips at the marina will become one at a cost of $5,000. It was suggested to charge $23,700, which would translate into a $7,245 increase in revenue. Oliner said that an assessment of all the boat slips is needed.

Chris Morales, who previously worked at the New York Tennis Club and The Woodmere Club will be the new tennis pro at the club. Morales will replace Mark Harrison who moved over to the Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor. Morales will earn $60,000 for the season.
