Long Beach Chamber launches holiday window contest

The Long Beach Chamber of Commerce kicked off its holiday window-decorating contest on Dec. 1, part of an effort to encourage residents and visitors to shop local — and celebrate the holidays.

This weekend, the city will send photographers to take pictures of the winter-themed storefronts; about 20 businesses are participating, and more are expected to sign up, said chamber member and organizer Kelly Sullivan.
Participating businesses will have photographs taken of their decorated storefronts that will be displayed on the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page.

The business whose Facebook photograph gains the highest amount of “likes” by 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 will be awarded a first-place prize.

First, second and third place will also be determined by amount of likes and announced on Dec. 31. The winning business will receive the Clark W. Griswald Holiday Spirit Award as well as a full-page color ad in the Herald.

Storefront photographs will be taken from Dec. 8 to Dec. 12 and then uploaded to Facebook where shoppers can vote for, or “like,” their favorite holiday decorations

The winning business will also receive a trophy created by members of Project 11561 to display in their store throughout 2017.

Participating stores include iLoveKickboxing, Scout Design Shop, Earth Arts, Josef Rose, Ooh la la, Shine’s Bar and Castle Estates Realty.
