A Few Clouds Man caught using skimmer device at Chase Bank in Hewlett

Vlad Mares was arrested for his alleged use of a skimmer device at the Chase Bank in Hewlett.

Police arrested Vlad Mares, 47, at 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 for allegedly using a skimmer device at the Chase Bank on Broadway in Hewlett.
After being informed by bank security that the device was in the bank’s ATM, police responded and saw Mares remove the skimmer with a small pry bar. A skimmer uses a camera to record the pin numbers used by bank customers to access the ATM.
Mares, who has no known place of residence, according to police, was charged with two counts of possession of a forged device and grand larceny-third degree.
