Man killed in Lawrence

A Florida man was struck by a vehicle and killed as he crossed the Nassau Expressway in Lawrence at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, police said.

Theodore Schiffman, 82, of Boca Raton, Fla., was crossing the Nassau Expressway east to west at Broadway, after reaching the center median he was hit by a 2013 Dodge that was traveling south, according to police.

Schiffman was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 8:32 p.m. The driver of the Dodge vehicle, a man, 66, was at the scene when police conducted an investigation. A brake and safety test was administered. Police determined that the vehicle was operating properly and no criminal charges were filed.
