Manhattan man arrested for Woodmere identity theft

A Woodmere man who had not received his mail for two days prompted an investigation by Nassau County police and the U.S. Postal authorities, which ended in the arrest of Manhattan resident Joshua N. Klarsfeld on July 15.
On July 9, the Woodmere resident realized he hadn’t gotten his mail and asked his postal carrier why. He was told that his mail had been forwarded to a Manhattan address from July 5 to July 19.
As the investigation unfolded, it was discovered that the man’s home telephone number had been forwarded to a 917 number and an unknown person had opened a Capital One credit card in his name and bought three Apple gift cards for more than $5,000, and made an online purchase from Bloomingdales for $2,000 use the man’s American Express card number.
Klarsfeld, 42, of East 12th Street, was arrested at a Manhattan post office on East Broadway. He was taken to the 4th Precinct in Hewlett. Klarsfeld was charged with forgery second-degree, identity theft second-degree and attempted identity theft first-degree.
