The North Bellmore School District has named Leyna Malone as the new principal of the Martin Avenue Elementary School. Malone served as assistant principal of the Saw Mill Road School last year.

Before coming to North Bellmore, Malone worked in the New York City School District. She was a classroom teacher, lead teacher and literacy coach at Stephen A. Halsey Junior High School in Rego Park, Queens. Before entering education, she worked in public relations.

Malone, of Commack, holds a master’s degree in childhood education from Fordham University and a certificate in educational leadership from Stony Brook University.

“I love that the district is child-centered and everything is about doing what’s best for students,” she said. “I am going to work my hardest to ensure that the students of Martin Avenue School get the highest quality education because that’s what they deserve.”

Superintendent Marie Testa cited Malone’s experience as an educational leader in selecting her for the job. “She has quickly distinguished herself as a compassionate, intelligent and community-oriented professional,” Testa said. “I am confident that Ms. Malone will be an exemplary principal.”
