Donovan Berthoud/Herald
More than 500 people came out to support the fashion show that raised $55,000.

Temple Israel in Lawrence was filled to capacity on June 4 as more than 500 people came out to support “Couture for a Cause: Joys of Life.”

The $55,000 proceeds raised at the fashion show benefited a kidney organization and Woodmere resident Deborah Schochet, who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or “Lou Gehrig’s disease.”

Michal Weinstein, of Woodmere, Hewlett Bay Park resident Esther Silber-Berg and Sharon Langert from New Jersey organized the fashion show. Television personality and comedian Joan Rivers emceed the event.
