The Young Artists of Long Island sing at Hewlett’s Center for Adult Life Enrichment

It was a full house at the Center for Adult Life Enrichment in Hewlett as the Young Artists of Long Island, along with Miss Long Island and Miss Long Island Teen 2014, performed for the seniors on Aug. 6.

Hewlett resident Sharon Pesenti serves as director of the Young Artists group. She is assisted by her children Alexis and Ben, both Hewlett High School graduates.

“I call these emerging vocal artists The Young Artists of Long Island,” Pesenti said. “I am hoping to make this group a 503c (a nonprofit organization) so we can share their talents in other communities.”  That would allow the group to fundraise.

Atara Guttman, a 7-year-old from North Woodmere who attends the Shulamith School for Girls in Woodmere, said that she loves to sing and enjoys being part of the Young Artists.

“My favorite song to sing is ‘Castle on the Cloud’ (from “Les Miserables”),” she said.

Franza, who has known Pesenti for a few years, said she jumped at the opportunity to sing with the group. “The song Michelle and I sang describes our relationship over the last year,” she said. “We chose it because it combines our efforts together.”

The program, which was a free show for CALE members and $10 for non-members, was sponsored in memory of Myriam Kolnick, who died in April. Kolnick had been an active member of the senior group as well as the Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre in East Rockaway.
