Man allegedly stole $63 from cabbie in Lawrence

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who allegedly robbed a taxicab driver of $63 at knifepoint in Lawrence on June 14.

On that Friday at 1:40 a.m., the man got into the taxi in Corona, Queens and asked to go to Far Rockaway. Then he changed the destination to Washington Place in Lawrence, according to police.

At Washington Place, the man threatened the cab driver with a steak knife held it to his stomach, then stole the money and fled on foot, police said.

The man is described as black, 40- to 45-years old, 5-7 with a heavy build, shaved head, wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt, and armed with the knife.

Nassau County Crime Stoppers is requesting anyone who can identify the man or has information about this incident to call 1-800-244-8477. All calls are kept confidential. There is up to a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
