With remnants of Tropical Storm Hermine lingering south of Long Island, the National Weather service has issued a coastal flood advisory for the South Shore of Nassau County that is in effect through Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Flooding is most likely to occur during high tide. This could result in 2 to 4 feet of flood waters. To learn the high tides for your location, go to www.nassaucountyny.gov/hurricane.

As of 1:30 p.m. Monday, Atlantic Beach Mayor George Pappas said: We haven't had any flooding and beach erosion is not a concern." Village beaches are open but swimming is prohibited, he added. Weather conditions created dangerous surf and riptide conditions.

Village of Cedarhurst stated in a release that if there is flooding village residents could move their vehicles s to the parking lot behind Village Hall and leave a note in the window of the car identifying the owner along with contact information. The parking lot behind Village Hall is at the highest elevation above sea level Cedarhurst and is the best place to try and avoid water damage to your car.

Lawrence trustee and village Parks Commissioner Uri Kaufman said the Lawrence Yacht & Country Club has implemented a procedure to secure all the boats at its marina. “Beyond that, there isn’t much that we can do other than monitor the situation,” Kaufman said. Equipment that services the golf course was moved t higher ground.

The Village of Lawrence may close off certain streets that are known for flooding and ensuring that sewer drains are clear of debris as a preventative measure and are monitoring weather reports, officials said.

In Atlantic Beach, Mayor George Pappas said the village beaches as well as all the beach clubs are closed until further notice as the weather conditions are creating dangerous surf and riptide conditions.

Nassau County officials said that though the storm’s path could change, the time is now for people who live near the shorelines to prepare for a possible evacuation. County officials through the Office of Emergency Management have outlined evacuations routes from Coastal Evacuation Areas. Residents should familiarize themselves with evacuation routes and secure their property. The new BeReadyLI.org is up and running just ahead of the storm. The website is set up by the United Way of Long Island, Long Island 211 and PSEG Long Island to help locals before, during and after a storm.

“We’ll have our men on call if necessary so if the storm has any impact in terms of trees coming down or any work that needs to be done, we can bring our men in as necessary,” said Cedarhurst Mayor Benjamin Weinstock.

The Town of Hempstead tested tree removal equipment, checked storm drain clearing trucks, prepared street sweepers, moved equipment to higher ground and is tracking the storm’s progress.
