Running and walking to support the Friendship Circle in North Woodmere

More than 19,000 raised to help special-needs kids

Nearly 40 women ran or walked the 5K course that began and ended in North Woodmere Park last Sunday as part of the Friendship Circle Five Towns Generosity 5K Run/Walk that as of press time has raised $19,557 to help the Jewish organization for children with special needs.

Friendship Circle has more than 80 locations globally that pairs 5,000 children with 11,000 teenage volunteers. The shared experiences helps to empower the children, build their self-esteem to make the most out of their abilities and talents.

Tova Pfeffer, of Far Rockaway, finished first in 28:09 and Bayswater resident Sharoni Botwinick, placed second in 28:22. Both represented Tova Mentoring in Cedarhurst. Team Extreme member Leah Frankel finished third. The Englewood, NJ resident posted a time of 29:33. Top individual fundraiser Arielle Wolfson ($3,692) was recognized before the race.
