On April 9, residents of the Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District will come out to vote on the proposed budget and for Trustee Ben Eilbott, a 54-year Hewlett resident, who is running for re-election for a five-year term, which will begin July 1.

Eilbott has been a trustee at the library since 1998 and said he wants to continue to make a contribution. "I hope people see that I'm a person who adds some value to what happens at the library," he said. "I've been a trustee and I know what I'm doing. I hope to continue that and continue helping the library and the residents in the 14th district."

According to Zaret, despite the thousands of eligible voters in the area, hardly any come out to vote. “You wouldn’t believe how few come out to vote for the budget,” he said. “If we get as many as 500 people that would be considered good.”

In the future, de Sciora hopes the library will continue to be a vital community resource. “If patrons need information on something, they can go to our website or come into the building and use it as a cultural and educational resource,” she said. “The librarians are here to find what patrons need and though I think the library is a resource now, I think it will expand some more.”

Voting will take place on April 9 between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library, 1125 Broadway in Hewlett.
