Three reported Five Towns’ burglaries

Alleged burglar entered or tried to get into homes in Woodmere and Cedarhurst

Police are looking for a man, described as black, who allegedly entered and attempted to get into three homes in the Five Towns on New Year’s Day, according to police.

At 1 p.m. on Jan. 1, an unidentified person told person they had seen a man wearing a green jacket in a house on Howard Avenue in Woodmere. Police responded and saw that a basement door in back of the home had been kicked in.

Then the officers received a report that a man matching the description was trying to get through the front door of a house on Redwood Drive. The homeowner had called the police. She opened the front door and saw a man walking west on Redwood Drive. When at this Woodmere home, the officers received a call about a person kicking the side door of a house on Park Circle in Cedarhurst.

The Cedarhurst homeowner was on the second floor, police said. He went downstairs after hearing the noise the man made allegedly kicking in the door. The homeowner reported that his side door was damaged. No items were taken, police said.
