'Welcome to the North Pole'

Posted

Hundreds of Seaford residents walked under a neon sign that read “Welcome to the North Pole” last Saturday night, ready to watch the Fire Department’s annual holiday lighting ceremony.

For the 43rd time in the department’s history, firefighters lit a tree next to district headquarters on Southard Avenue. Santa Claus himself came to see the tree, arriving on a sleigh with Frosty the Snowman.

Youngsters greeted Jolly Old Saint Nick while their parents snapped photographs. Everyone sampled complimentary hot chocolate and cookies while waiting for the lighting ceremony to begin.

Seaford residents also embraced the holiday spirit of giving at the event. Scores of folks donated toys to the Fire Department’s annual collection for children in need.
