A West Hempstead man was arrested for assault on Feb. 17 when he inappropriately touched a woman in his home, then proceeded to punch and kick her after she pushed him away.

According to detectives, Ednilson David Cruz Alvarado, 24, of 426 Cedar Street in West Hempstead, was attempting to touch the 35-year-old woman, who rejected his advances. Alvarado then punched her in the mouth, causing a tooth to fall out, and continued punching and kicking the victim’s stomach, legs and right arm.

The woman managed to flee, and proceeded to call 911, telling emergency operators that Alvarado had barricaded himself in his bedroom after hurting her. Police were able to gain entry into his room, however, and he was put in police custody.

The woman was treated at a nearby hospital for contusions to her right arm. Alvarado was transported to the hospital for chest pains.

Alvarado is being charged with assault, attempted sexual abuse, bail jumping and has two outstanding warrants.

He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Feb. 20.
