Woman burned in her Woodmere home

A woman in her 30s was burned in a Barnard Avenue house fire in Woodmere on July 15, according to 2nd Deputy chief Ben Nelson of the Woodmere Fire Department.

Nelson said, that at 5:12 p.m., the fire department received a call and responded to the home. The woman was found with burns on her hands and legs from her clothing catching fire, while she was cooking fire officials said. Woodmere fire ambulance took her to the Number Six School, where a police helicopter transported her to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.

She was found to have second- and third-degree burns, Nelson said.

The Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department also responded to the scene.
