AMIT honors Cedarhurst residents

Mother and daughter, Debra and Daniella Haft, of Cedarhurst, are among the six people that AMIT will honor at its annual Greater Long Island gala at the Sephardic Temple, also in Cedarhurst, on Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m.

The Hafts represent the Sabra Massada chapters. Daniella Haft, a member of the Midreshet AMIT class of 2017 will present the dvar Torah — a talk on that week’s Torah portion. Midreshet AMIT in Jerusalem is a program for young women who graduated high school that blends a year of intensive Jewish studies and working with foster children.

AMIT is a New York-based nonprofit that aims to help Israel’s youth realize their potential and to strengthen Israeli society by educating and nurturing children from diverse backgrounds focused on academic excellence, religious values and Zionist ideals.

The group serves 34,000 students in 110 schools in 29 cities in Israel.
The event is co-chaired by several people. Including Risë and Harvey Kaufmann, from Woodmere and Zipporah and Rabbi Arnold Marans, of Cedarhurst. Marans is the spiritual leader of the Sephardic Temple.
